Every dog has a unique personality and disposition, and every home setting is also unique and presents its own challenges and opportunities. Every dog deserves to be trained based on their particular strengths and sensitivities in their home environs, at a time convenient for you. This requires a unique, sensitive trainer, with a good eye, excellent timing, a wide range of experience and a wealth of knowledge. Whether you want to train a pup or a mature dog, you need expert guidance to effectively train your dog. The Hoboken Dog Trainer is a formally educated professional who has been training dogs since 2002.
Hoboken Dog Trainer uses your dog's natural inclinations and motivations to train your dog eliciting your dog's cooperation. We do not use funny-looking or hurtful equipment, "gimmicks" like throw chains which don't teach your dog what TO do, or force. The only items needed to train your dog are equipment in good condition such as flat buckle collar, harness and leash; and food and toys that motivate your dog. Training in the arts gives us a keen eye for subtleties and patterns in your dog's behavior. Training in Counseling Psychology and Animal Science gives us the formal training required to understand the psychology and learning theory behind training your dog. Your Hoboken Dog Trainer has studied psychology and animal science at the undergraduate college levels and your trainer also holds a Master's Degree in the arts and a permanent NJ state certification as an educator since 1992. A lifetime of being athletic and fit with a keen eye gives your Hoboken Dog Trainer an exquisite sense of timing, necessary to 'catch and reward' appropriate behaviors in your puppy or dog, and to quickly head off undesirable behaviors, and you can be taught to do what we know how to do as we're excellent, state certified instructors, which make us professionals in the truest sense of the word. Professional, state certified teachers make the best Dog Trainers! You should not need to settle for anything less.
What we will NEVER do: We will NEVER solicit your business by trying to invoke fear, panic or anxiety in you. The choice of whom you hire to train your dog should be made in a calm, relaxed, informed manner withnno pressure - if you're reaching out to us, it's likely you already have an issue which is concerning you, and you don't need the added pressure of a trainer "strong-arming" you or rushing you. If you've called several trainers, speak to all of them before you hire one. You will be glad you did. It's usually the busiest and most in-demand trainer who isn't available to take your call and who may need to call you back. That being said, we have highly trained support staff who will take your call when the Trainer is busy and do a thorough Intake with you, as well as make an appointment for you. Please DO leave us a voice mail, or e-mail us, if we're unable to take your call - we are in demand, have sometimes hectic schedules, and it is likely we will be training a dog when you call. Allow a couple of hours for us to call you back. You will be glad you did!
We are calm, friendly, articulate, well-groomed, physically fit, highly educated and trained professionals who know what we're doing. Our "sales pitch" is genuine, and you will hear it in our voices, in the very relevant and thorough questions we ask, and in how we obtain the information we need from you in order to help your dog. We tell you what our process is, how it works, about our policies (understandably, we have a couple of reasonable cancellation policies of which we will make you aware), and what to expect when you train your dog with us. We're also excellent listeners and observers!
As state certified instructors, we are fingerprinted and our prints are permanently on file with the NJ State Police. We are free of any criminal record in order to keep our permanent state certification status, so you needn't be concerned for any reason about the person you allow into your home. There is NO dog trainer certification out there that can make that claim, and the truth is unless you know this, you have no idea who you are inviting into your home to train your dog, as there are no educational requirements and no criminal background check in order to become a dog trainer, not even a "certified" one. You deserve to have peace of mind about whom you invite into your home, and to know that the trainer you're working with is someone you can trust! We also carry dog trainer insurance.
Dog trainer certifications are mostly money making ventures, and curricula and requirements amongst the entities that offer these certifications for dog trainers vary greatly. There are no educational prerequisities in order to become a certified dog trainer, and pretty much anyone can become a certified dog trainer within a matter of months, even if they never worked with a dog before that time! Your Hoboken Dog Trainer studied for five years in order to gain state educator certification, required a college diploma in order to take the NJ state certification test, and our certification status is permanent. Therefore, no high fees get transfereed to our customers in our pricing as we have no high annual certificaiton renewal fees like most other "certified" trainers. A Hoboken Dog Trainer professional will spend 15 minutes of FREE intake with you when you call. Have your questions, concerns and priorities ready for us in order to use your initial intake time wisely. (After 15 minutes, you can opt to continue the intake for a fee which we will charge to your credit card - or, make an appointment to see us at a time which is convenient to your schedule and we will further evaluate your dog and your situation when we meet.) Relax and allow us to ask questions which will lead us in the quickest manner to the niformation we need in order to help you and your family dog.
